The GCSE in Classical Civilisation has been introduced as an option for the first time this year, and gives students an exciting opportunity to understand the social, historical and cultural contexts of the classical world (Ancient Greece and Rome), and its impact and legacy today, through the study of a variety of literature and visual materials.

KS4 Classics GCSE

This is a new GCSE that we are excited to be offering to our Y9s, with our first cohort securing very good GCSE results in 2022.

Year 10

  • Women in the Ancient World

Year 11​

  • Selected books from the Odyssey by Homer
  • Mycenaean life and culture

KS5 Classics A Level

Classics A Level (OCR)

The A Level in Classical Civilisation allows students to explore. analyse and evaluation ancient Greek and Roman beliefs, customs and ideals in greater detail through a more in-depth study and analysis of literature, ancient artifacts and artworks, supported by the reading and critiquing of both ancient and modern reception and scholarship.

Year 12

  • The World of the Hero: The Iliad by Homer
  • Greek theatre (including Oedipus Rex, the Frogs and the Bacchae)

Year 13

  • ​The World of the Hero: The Aenei​d by Virgil
  • Love and relationships (through Greek and Roman poetry)
